wall hangings

Introduction

Wall hangings are available in many different types. Some of these are more common in the form of wall art, some in the form of tapestries and some mirrors. Framed photos, sconces, baskets and vinyl pictures are other types of wall hangings. There are so many different types, styles and designs of wall hangings that almost every style is available for home decor.

Wall Art

Wall art is the most common type of wall hanging. The paintings and prints come in every style from native folk art to Tuscan and from Tucson to abstract subjects. Some of the most common places to hang wall art are above fireplaces, beds, and sofas where most wall art is used.

Tapestry

Tapestries are a type of wall hanging made of woven material. Unlike wall art, tapestries are usually not framed but are hung from a rod attached to the top part of the tapestry. Several scenes are depicted in the tapestry, of which sea scenes, flowers and landscapes are mostly included. Tapestries are available in all sizes but are often quite large, making them an ideal tapestry wall hanging for hanging over a large wall space, such as the wall in a two-story foyer.

Mirror

Mirrors are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs and can be hung in almost any room. Mirror type wall hangings can be used to accent other wall hangings or as a focal point, and they can be framed or unframed with straight or beveled edges. Some mirror wall hangings are also etched, with a design etched onto the mirrored surface.

Metal Wall Hanging

Metal wall hangings became a well- liked decorating trend. Iron and aluminum are the most commonly used metals in metal wall hangings. There are many styles of metal art available, including plaque, panels, and grilles. Wrought iron is often used to create abstract art and wall sconces, as well as to craft mirrors and clocks. Metal wall art can be flat, but it can also be bent into a scroll shape or tied together within a decorative twist and a framed metal border.

Vinyl Wall Art

Another popular trend in wall decor is vinyl wall art in the form of wall hangings. Vinyl is to use  and may be removed without damaging the wall or painted surface. Vinyl stickers are available in almost every color.

Letters, phrases, polka dots, and images are just some of the possibilities of vinyl art, making it a popular and easy way to decorate any room. Framed images can be displayed as a group on a wall, in matching or mismatched frames. A single framed picture, such as a wedding portrait, can be used as a decorative wall hanging focal point in a room with vinyl lettering as wall sconces, metal wall art or as an accent. Framed pictures often want to display photos of youngsters, a favorite family vacation, or other family photos.

Sconce type wall hangings add an extra source of light without taking up space on the floor or side table. An eye-catching design that can double as a wall sculpture to bring in light and style.

Curate A Gallery Wall

While nothing adds personality and color like a gallery wall, they can also be given a whole new dimension by displaying a collection of art or photographs, or by putting up wall hangings. Opt for simple, cohesive frames to mix things up or add in an array of ornate variations. The gallery wall can be extended to the ceiling to create the illusion of a larger space.
